Why the U.S. should support Israel’s fight against terrorism
Israel’s new government is poised to give a major boost to the countrys military and intelligence services, a move that could further bolster the country’s security and help it resist the rising threat of terrorism.
President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to be the country s ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Dermer, has already called for the establishment of a “Jerusalem Defense Force,” and a “Jewish Homeland” to protect Israel’s capital.
Trump has said the U,S.
must “prevent” terrorists from infiltrating the country.
“I will make it a priority, and we will make sure that Israel’s security forces are strong and they’re prepared to fight,” Dermer said last month, according to a video published by the Jerusalem Post.
“Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.
There’s no question about that,” he added.
Dermer said Israelis security forces should be armed with the capability to protect the city.
“The security services need to be able to protect Jerusalem.
It is not only the city itself that is important, but also the infrastructure, the infrastructure that has to be protected,” he said.
Israel has already faced threats from the Palestinian group Hamas, which has waged a deadly war against Israeli forces since 2007.
Last month, the Palestinian terror group attacked an Israeli bus in Jerusalem, killing six people.
The United States has backed Israel in the battle against terror and its government has long argued that terrorism is a Palestinian-led movement that seeks to undermine the Israeli government.
In a video posted to Facebook in January, Dermer criticized President Barack Obama’s support for Palestinian militant group Hamas.
“We don’t like this Palestinian terrorist group because of the actions they’ve taken, because of what they’re doing to Israel,” Dermler said.
“And you know what?
We’re not going to sit back and let that happen to us.”
Israel has a large Arab population, which it considers a legitimate source of national security.
Its intelligence services have been targeted by Islamic State terrorists in recent years.
Israel has also faced a number of terror attacks, including an attack on a bus carrying Israeli tourists in 2015, and in 2016, a truck bomb that killed two people.
Dermers nomination has been approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and will be considered by the full Senate on Tuesday.
